Hey! Anyone young in and around Vancouver! Check out this monthly creative writing intensive I run for 15-18 year olds. It’s completely FREE, has amazing guest presenters, happens once a month, and will change your FREAKING LIFE!

FreeWrite! 2011
What is it?
Free Write! is a five month writing course that will take place between February- June, 2010. There is one class a month, which lasts for two hours. The class takes place on the first Sunday of every month. Each class will feature a presentation by a guest writer. After the six classes are complete, an anthology of the students’ work will be put together, to be released at a final event. Woot woot – party!
Who is in it?
You! And 19 other students your age who are super interested in writing! The class will be limited to 20 students, so you have to apply to get in, but the application will not take that long and includes a short 400 word writing sample. For specifics on applying check below.
Oh! And there will also be tons of amazing guest writers! Last year we had: novelist Jen Sookfong Lee, playwright TJ Dawe, poets Barbara Adler and Lucia Misch and a whole wack of heavyweights from the publishing world. Plus, your lead facilitator, Brendan McLeod, is a writer as well! All the writers are relatively young (under 40 – no aching backs yet!) and do it for a living, so they can provide inside tips and expertise on what it takes to be a full-time writer.
Where is it?
Free Write! happens in a great space at the Purple Thistle Community Centre, located at Venables and Clark. It is an amazing happy facility, run entirely by youth, with a nice classroom upstairs with tons of windows. Yes!

How do I Apply?
Simple! Just:
a) submit a writing sample (500 words or less)
b) a paragraph detailing your experience as a writer and what you hope to achieve as a writer.
