Come celebrate the release of Brendan McLeod’s new live album. ‘Little Troubles, Live’ is a mix of the songs, poems, stories, and bits of energetic banter Brendan McLeod has been performing across North America and Europe for the past few years. This selection, recorded in front of home crowds in multiple Vancouver venues, chronicles the difficulties that result from being a person in the world, from oversized sweaters and break ups to funerals and robberies, serving up a manifold world of earnest difficulties and uneasy conclusions with humour and heart. For the past five years, Brendan McLeod has earned a great deal of experience interacting with audiences. Whether touring as a performance poet, an award winning novelist, a member of the critically acclaimed music group The Fugitives, or as part of Awesome Face (a kids group for adults), he’s developed a wide array of storytelling styles to display on ‘Little Troubles’. A former Canadian SLAM poetry champion, he can drop performance poems with the best of them, but he also manages to channel his huge energy into palpable folk songs and thought provoking stories. ‘Little Troubles’ entreats you to do the dishes, never make fun of a Christmas present, and watch Bruce Willis movies. It finds the ultimate love story on Craigslist, and teaches you how to avoid loneliness for five dollars. Overall, it endeavours to make you appreciate community, family, and clothing (even if it’s too big for you). “Little Troubles, Live” captures the energy, breadth, and scope of Brendan’s busy career and centers on the words and voice of an exciting and versatile up and coming Canadian storyteller. He will be joined this evening by current Vancouver SLAM poetry champion and local spoken word legend RC Weslowski and singer-songwriter Corbin Murdoch, fresh off his own cd release for the powerful new album Wartime Lovesong.
