About the Upcoming Play…

Hey! I’m writing a play! A one woman play! It doesn’t have a name yet, but it will soon.

Soon, because on February 28th it will make its workshop premiere at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. I am more than excited to welcome it into the world, as it is in the overly capable hands of two amazing artists:

The director is TJ Dawe – a Canadian theatre legend responsible for directing/writing/monologuing some true masterpieces over the past decade – Slip-Knot, Totem Figures, One Man Star Wars, etc, etcetera. He’s won a Jessie and a Just for Laughs Comedy Award and on and on. Dude’s redonkulous. Just go to youtube and put it in his name.

The actor is Cara Yeates. Cara is the awesomeness behind past one woman plays like Bye Bye Bombay and Some Reckless Abandon. When I went to see the latter play my head blew off with how good she was, so I’m super proud to be attached to a project with her. Check out her site at: www.carayeates.com

Cara just won the inaugural Joanna Maratta Award from the Vancouver fringe for her potential to destroy the Vancouver theatre world with goodness. Her prize was a mentorship with TJ Dawe, and this is how they’ve chosen to fulfill it. Working on this play. Uh oh. Hope it’s good.

It will be good, though! It’s about a children’s performer who becomes pregnant and has to decide on what to step to take for the good of her future and family. For anyone familiar with my stuff, it’s like mixing Awesome Face with The Convictions of Leonard McKinley with more than a few ramblings in between. Should be fun!
